Material performance: Commercial playground borders are designed to contain loose-fill surfacing and withstand long-term outdoor exposure. Performance varies by material, profile, installation method, and site conditions.
Rubber timbers: Recycled-rubber borders provide a rounded exposed edge, resist rotting and splintering, and can accommodate straight runs or gentle curves depending on the product.
Plastic timbers: Molded-plastic borders provide a lightweight, durable containment system for straight playground layouts and defined corners.
Drainage: Keep drainage openings and surrounding grades clear so water can move away from the playground and does not collect inside the bordered area.
Routine inspection: Inspect borders, stakes, rebar, connectors, joints, drainage openings, and surrounding surfacing regularly. Reset or replace loose, shifted, damaged, or exposed components promptly.
