Commercial Playground Planning Checklist
Use this checklist to organize the major requirements before commercial playground equipment is ordered.
Playground Users
- Determine the intended age range and expected capacity.
- Consider accessibility and inclusive-play needs.
- Review manufacturer-supplied ADA information and accessible-component counts when available.
Site and Space
- Measure the available area and confirm the required use zone.
- Review site access, slope, drainage and existing conditions.
- Identify utilities and any required site preparation.
Equipment and Surfacing
- Review capacity, fall height, play components and mounting options.
- Choose an appropriate safety surface and required installed depth.
- Calculate material for the complete use zone.
- Plan borders, accessible entrances and high-wear areas.
Installation
- Decide whether to request nationwide professional installation.
- Confirm whether the quote includes equipment, borders, rubber mulch or EWF surfacing.
- Follow the current manufacturer installation instructions.
Freight and Receiving
- Confirm semi-trailer access and the unloading method.
- Arrange a loading dock and forklift when available.
- If unloading by hand, plan for 2–4 capable adults and appropriate tools.
- Inspect the shipment and note visible damage before signing.
Budget and Timing
- Plan for equipment, surfacing, borders, installation, freight and site work.
- Confirm lead time, target completion date and local approval requirements.
