Choosing commercial playground equipment becomes much easier when you start with the requirements of your site and the people who will use it.

Age Range

Choose playground equipment designed for the ages you expect to serve. Commercial playgrounds may be designed for younger children, school-age children, or a broader age range.

Playground Capacity

Consider how many children may use the playground at the same time, especially for schools, daycares, churches, parks, campgrounds, and other high-use environments.

Available Space & Use Zone

The playground footprint is only part of the space required.

Commercial playgrounds also have a designated use zone surrounding the equipment. This area must be included when planning your site and safety surfacing.

Fall Height & Safety Surfacing

The playground's fall height helps determine the safety surfacing requirements for the project.

Popular commercial surfacing options include Rubber Mulch and Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF).

Mounting Method

Depending on the equipment, mounting options may include:

  • In-ground mounting

  • Surface mounting

  • Stake mounting on select equipment

Site conditions and the specific playground will determine which options are appropriate.

Freight & Receiving

Commercial playground equipment typically ships by freight in an enclosed semi-trailer. Plan ahead for unloading and receiving the equipment when it arrives.

Think About the Complete Playground

A complete commercial playground project may also include:

  • Safety surfacing

  • Playground borders

  • ADA access

  • Site preparation

  • Installation

  • Freight

  • Additional playground or site amenities
